Reading while on the road.

Posted on July 25, 2010 by KK

Having a book to read is essential to me for my down time or when I just want to sit outside in a park/cafe and sip a coffee/tea and relax.

1) Brought my “Rough Guide : First Time Around the World” to start off.

2) Found a John Grisham book on the airplane to Dublin. Kept it. Never read it.

3) Bought my Lonely Planet : Europe on a Shoestring later, gave my John Grisham to Kiera. The LP has been the single most important book on my travels so far.

4) Bought a Sherlock Holmes collection of stories book in Bath. So much fun to read.

5) Picked up “Rob Roy” in Brasov. Was difficult to read as it couldn’t keep my interest.

6) Bought Lonely Planet : Africa in Istanbul.

7) Sold my “Rough Guide”, “Sherlock Holmes”, and “Rob Roy” to a local bookstore here in Goreme. Had to get rid of all the dead weight. Picked up “Dracula”. So far, lots of fun to read.

This is exactly why I bought a Kindle. I regret the hours upon hours I spent looking for a proper guidebook in English, and then paying twice the cover price when I found it.

I guess it depends on where you look. I found my guidebooks from big cities and I’ve paid cover price so far (Dublin/Istanbul).

But you are right. Carrying a Kindle would be so convenient. Dload all your reading material/guide books from online, then upload onto Kindle…Does LP produce Kindle format material? Last I checked, they were PDFs, I don’t know if Kindles can read PDFs.

LP offers PDF, Kindle, and iPhone versions. The PDF version is exactly the same, so I prefer it. And yes, Kindle does support PDF. I currently have LP PDFs on my Kindle.

It’s hardly many at all. I’ve only finished one “pleasure” book. The rest are guidebooks.

LOL nice, that could be a new profession (“queue-ist”). How did you find someone to do that anyway?
