My impression of Lima (at least the Miraflores and Barranco area) is that it reminds me of Southern California. I think it’s because Machu Picchu brings many foreigners into town and the city has pumped a lot of money into those areas to make foreigners feel a bit more at home.
I applied for my Brazil visa. They required my in/outward bound plane tickets, my bank statements from the last 3 months, copy of my credit card, application form, and payment receipt of $160. They are telling me 5 business days, which means I’m stuck in Lima for much longer time than I wanted. But I decided to break it by going to Trujillo. My overnight VIP Cruz Del Sur bus leaves in 3 hours. It is a 10-hour journey.
I am also battling a stomach bug today. I don’t know what caused it but I took an anti-diarrhea pill, drank some Gatorade, and ate some Ritz saltines (they are addictive). I am hoping the overnight bus ride will go smoothly. I always have those motion-sickness pills which I find work great for knocking a person out cold!
Edit: Did a quick web search and looks like someone else agrees.
